Next Steps to Better Care Together: engagement events
The events will be held between 5pm and 7.45pm and people can attend the whole event or drop in for the informal discussions on NHS plans for improvement between 5pm and 6pm or attend the formal presentations and Question & Answer session at 6pm.
The BCT team said:
“The improvements being proposing would reconfigure the three hospitals currently run by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. Those hospitals are the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Glenfield Hospital and Leicester General Hospital.
Under the proposals acute services – where patients receive short-term treatment for an urgent medical condition, or during recovery from surgery – would be moved to two hospitals. These would be the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital.
Some non-acute health services would continue to be provided at Leicester General Hospital, including the Leicester Diabetes Centre of Excellence, GP Access Imaging Hub and Stroke Rehabilitation.
Those plans include building a brand new single site maternity hospital at Leicester Royal Infirmary along with a dedicated Children’s Hospital. At the Glenfield Hospital we want to create a new treatment centre dedicated to planned surgery. This will mean that fewer operations are cancelled and we can build more wards to treat the increase in patients we are seeing with heart, chest and lung problems.
We recognise that people have questions about the proposals for the consolidation of level 3 intensive care services onto two of our sites and we look forward to the opportunity to explain why this is so important and the impact of this change on the wider reconfiguration plans.
People will also be able to talk to representatives from NHS organisations about the progress being made to keep more people well and out of hospital and provide better care in a crisis, as well as discussing the changes that will deliver more care close to home – particularly for those people who have one or more long term condition and those in need of high quality specialist care.
