Celebrating 100 years of Rutland Memorial Hospital

To mark the occasion the hospital held a family fun day on 17 August in the grounds with bouncy castle, face painting, tombola, second hand book sale, and stalls giving health and care information.

It was lovely to see so many people on the day and a great opportunity for Healthwatch to talk to families and children about their experiences of health and care.

In all we spoke to 20 families to hear about their views of health and social care services. 25 children visited our activity table where we asked them to share their feelings about when they go to the dentist by drawing pictures, using emoji stickers or writing their thoughts.

Some of the comments left by older children were foreseeable but there were also some unexpected ones!

“I like it when there’s nothing wrong”

“I like the smell”

The hospital was built to commemorate those who died in battle during the First World War.

Carla Yaxley, ward manager for the inpatient ward, said: “Our hospital is a valued and much-loved part of the community, and we wanted to share this anniversary with the local community.”

The day was a great success, and there was celebration cake for all!
