COVID-19 vaccination progress
The Rutland vaccination scheme run by the Primary Care Network has this week achieved a milestone of administering a massive 10,000 vaccinations (a quarter of the Rutland population), thanks to the dedication and hard work of all staff and volunteers involved.
The programme has now moved on to group 5 (people 65 and over) and group 6 (vulnerable people aged 16 to 64 years with underlying health conditions and unpaid carers).
If you are in group 5 or 6, you are now also eligible to receive your vaccine at the Peepul Centre mass vaccination hub in Leicester. Carers must be eligible for Carers Allowance to receive their jab at the hub. People who receive Carers Allowance may receive a letter from the national NHS inviting you to book at the Leicester hub, or you can book your vaccination online.
Not all carers are eligible for Carers Allowance however, and in parallel, the Rutland Health Primary Care Network is inviting everyone known to their GP or RCC as an unpaid carer, to book their vaccination at the Oakham centre. You can receive your jab as a carer at the Oakham centre, whether you receive Carers Allowance or not. As groups 5 and 6 together are very large in Rutland, it will take some weeks to complete these groups, so please be patient.
In trying to vaccinate as many carers as possible using both local and mass vaccination centres, it is possible that carers may receive invitations both from the national and local programmes and you can choose which method best suits you.
If you do not receive Carers Allowance and have not a advised your GP or the council that you are an unpaid carer, now is the time to email your GP to identify yourself as a carer so that you will be invited for vaccination in the coming weeks.
Have you had your jab yet?
Please share your experience of receiving your COVID-19 jab. We would like to know where you went for your vaccination, how you found the invitation and booking process, experience at the vaccination centre and anything else you wish to share about the vaccination programme:
